Survey Results: Students’ Attitudes to Mental Health

The stigma surrounding mental health problems remains a significant issue across university campuses in Ireland, according to a survey we recently conducted on students’ attitudes to mental health problems.

While the majority of the students surveyed appeared open to and understanding of mental health issues, a significant 69% said that they would not want anyone to know if they themselves were experiencing mental health problems.

The findings come as First Fortnight’s college campus tour kicks off in UCD today as part of a week long festival of live music, film and mental health awareness events. First Fortnight have teamed up with See Change, the Union of Students Ireland, Suicide or Survive to roll out this programme of engaging and thought-provoking events across college campuses aimed at challenging perceptions and promoting open discussion of mental health.
