Headline Consult Media Support Officer

Reporting to:  National Projects Team Leader  

Full time post (35hrs per week), Permanent Contract

Salary – Grade IV Point 1 – €28,330

 

Location: Currently in Maynooth but Shine reserves the right to change location.

Headline is the National Programme dedicated to promoting and facilitating ethical and responsible media coverage of suicide and mental health issues.  Headline proactively collaborates with journalists and other media professionals to ensure responsible and ethical reporting of suicide and mental health issues in accordance with agreed national guidelines.

 

The Purpose of the Role

Headline has recently undergone a major restructuring and we are now recruiting for a new and exciting role. Media Consult is a new initiative aimed at change the way Ireland’s media reports on mental health and suicide.

The Headline Consult Media support Officer will be a dynamic and energetic media professional who has a passion for positive change. He/she will have extensive experience in print, broadcast and social media in Ireland or elsewhere.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with editors, journalist and media teams to support and mentor change.

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Design and implement the Headline Consult Industry program to support media professionals on reporting of mental health and suicide.
  • Manage collaborative partnerships with key opinion leaders within the industry to develop suite of training materials for a broad target audience.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships with media organisationsto develop and grow the Headline Consult brand
  • Manage and develop key initiatives targeting key industry groups.
  • Monitor, review and evaluate activities on an ongoing basis reflecting any developments or findings from periodic thematic analysis of media coverage
  • Manage and drive the implementation of industry wide media guidelines in relation to the reporting of mental health and suicide.
  • Manage industry award program and drive new initiatives to foster and develop ethical reporting of mental health and suicide within the industry.

  • Strong networking and relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Industry knowledge and experience
  • Highly motivated self-starter who is willing to take the initiative but also capable of working within a team.

 

Essential Requirements 

  • Third level qualification in Journalism or Media related field
  • Interest in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention
  • Full Drivers licenceand use of own car
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in media activity.
  • A passion for change.
